Tonight was a lovely, wonderful sounding rehearsal with Morley & District Concert Band. We played a decent range of music and I feel there were a few things we could polish up enough for the summer concerts we have arranged. This period of time is good to try out lots of different material to assess whether we can do them justice or not.
The evening was tinged with sadness though as we had to announce that our founder, Aubrey Beswick, had sadly passed away last weekend. As a tribute, we played one of his compositions, On The Mosel, which he wrote while in Germany with a band playing in the region. He’s the reason I conduct that band and I try to keep the lightness and element of fun that he brought to it. Aubrey last visited us at a rehearsal last summer and he was very pleased that the band was still going and had gone from strength to strength since he began it in September 1998.
Work was nice – Thursday afternoon is my half a day out of class to plan, prepare and assess. Which I did at home. So that’s one and a half days this week I’ve worked from home. I could get used to it! Tomorrow, as well, I’m out of class to do some work for my head teacher. It’s a little frustrating to have time out of class – I do the job because I love teaching children, rather than paperwork – however, it’s nice to be seen as someone who can be relied upon to do these things for the school.
No caching done today – we didn’t need to and don’t until Saturday now. More snow and terrible weather is due though so we shall see whether we go out or not.
